What is Palo Santo?
You’ve probably heard of this mysterious tree by now and maybe you’ve even experienced its healing effects. If not, you're in for a treat (and possibly a new obsession)! Palo Santo is a mystical tree that is part of the Bursera family and grows on the coast of South America.
In Spanish, the name literally means "Holy Wood" and has many sweet notes of pine, mint, and lemon. Palo Santo contains 110 components of smell that are all in the citrus family which makes it very unique and powerful.
Palo Santo for Ceremonial Use
Palo Santo is enjoyed by many for its energetically cleansing and healing properties, similar to sage and cedar. It is a strong medicine that has been popularized for its use in keeping energy grounded and clear, especially in South American ceremonies. When burned as incense, it creates a pleasant smoke and an uplifting scent which helps to raise your vibration in preparation for meditation and allows for a deeper connection to the divine.
It is said that Palo Santo enhances creativity and brings good fortune to those who are open to its magic. It also helps to keep away mosquitoes and other flying insects which is one of the prime uses for the people who live in Ecuador and Peru.
Palo Santo Healing Benefits
Palo Santo is traditionally used for relieving physical ailments like common colds, flu symptoms, stress, asthma, headaches, anxiety, depression, inflammation, emotional pain, and more. The sweet scent is great for aromatherapy, helping boost immunity and calm the nervous system for faster recovery.
