Herbs to Support Your Root Chakra

The first chakra, or the root chakra, is associated with your foundation. When the root is balanced, one feels secure, confident, and flows within their life. Let's take a deeper look into the natural plant world and see how we can use herbs to support our most fundamental elements and how this relates to chakras.

The Root Chakra

There are seven chakras that make up the body's main energy centers. Chakra translates to "wheel" in Sanskrit. When all of our chakras are open, energy can flow and turn on the wheel more freely, and balance will come between the body, mind, and spirit.

The root chakra sits at the base of the spine, or the perineum, and it gives us a sense of grounding. This is where the foundation of life lies, and our sense of protection comes from. The root chakra is associated with birth, life, menstruation, and the color red. It's associated with the feeling of safety and grounding and lays the foundation for expansion in your life. When it's blocked, we feel threatened, as if we're standing on unstable ground.

Herbal Teas

All useful plants are herbs. Herbs interact with our energy system and can help bring balance into our lives. They have been used for centuries for their healing properties and are commonly used today in our day-to-day lives. As far as herbal remedies go, tea is a delicious beverage that also yields a number of health benefits. Teas often come packed with antioxidants and nutrients that serve many purposes.

Root Chakra Tea

Our Root Support Blend was designed to support the whole body, starting with the root chakra. Other herbs have been added which complement each other and work as a whole to set your inner energy back on track.

One of the herbs in this blend is Nettle. Nettle is a powerful yet gentle plant ally to boost energy and build vitality. Nettle is rich in vitamins and minerals and is used widely. Nettle has a high level of Vitamin C and offers the body a deep sense of nourishment. This herb nourishes the root chakra.

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is traditionally used to promote health throughout the entire body. The herb invites awaking, awareness, and balance to the chakra centers, forming a deep spiritual connection and the union of the heart and mind.

Below is a list of herbs in our blend of Root Support Tea to help balance the body and open the root chakra:

  • Nettle: Rich in vitamins and minerals and nourishes the root chakra
  • Oat-straw: Relieves physical stress and promotes mental clarity
  • Tulsi: Supports overall well-being, enhances stamina, and stimulates energy
  • Rosemary: Improves circulation and contains antioxidants
  • Dandelion: Helps to support healthy kidney function and healthy digestion
  • Lemongrass: Relieves anxiety and reduces bloating

Best Tea Brewing Practice

One of the easiest ways of working with herbs is through infusion or steeped in a tea. The longer you can steep herbal tea, the more benefits you will gain. Make sure to put a lid on your tea so that the herbal benefits do not evaporate in the steam. You can also add a small amount of honey, sugar, or even plant-based milk to your tea.

How to Brew Herbal Tea:

  • Put 2 tsp of herbal tea in an 8 oz cup or strainer
  • Pour boiled water over the tea
  • Steep for at least 4 min but up to 10 is best
  • Remove infuser or strain herbs out

In addition to drinking a nourishing tea, eating three nutritious meals a day, drinking lots of water, and eating fiber for elimination and supporting your adrenals will all help to keep your root chakra balanced.

Happy steeping!
